These last few weeks have zoomed by with truly breakneck speed. If it is a function of life speeding up during the ‘good times’ or something else is a question I leave to philosophers and physicist - I’ll just point out that the absence of blog posts in this here little blog right here during the last few weeks have had nothing to do with lack of inspiration or good times – au contraire.
A preponderance of old and new friends alike, beautiful sunsets, long (if not entirely successful) rounds of golf and many cold beers on porches and stoops, at bars and lakeside - these things have kept me from my blogging needs. Truth be told however, these are things I am entirely comfortable with having interfering with my quality time with this laptop here. So there you go, I’m here writing right now but in a few I’m off to meet Martin and go see The Dark Knight. Note to self: add Batman-movies to things you are perfectly okay with interfering with your bloggy-time.
Anyways. Where to start? Well, it’s Thursday, August 31 – the last day of August. I’ve been off and done with work now for a week. I’ll rephrase that, I’ve been off and done with school for a glorious week. The kicker? Oh, I have about four more weeks of sleeping in, playing golf, reading books and lounging around until the semester starts! Aight, full disclosure: I should definitely have some good ideas for my project before then, some outlines perhaps – but I don’t see why you can’t do that while sipping on a Diet Coke in a hammock somewhere.
Last week Shannon swung by Sweden on the last leg of her World Tour promoting her latest smash sensation called ‘Shannon’s Post Collegiate Career”. She flew into Gothenburg airport at 7AM on Thursday morning, and me being the steady go-to guy you can trust and put faith in, picked her up – even though it was nothing but a fluke and a result of my slight OCD that made me double-check her arrival time at 1AM the night before her arrival, only to find out that she was flying into some tiny little hobby-plane airport, far from the works of man (and equally far from any highway I could possibly take) I did manage to get her safe and sound back to my parents’ house in Jönköping, Sweden. There we managed to cram as much crazy sightseeing, beer-drinking and candy eating as was humanly possible into a few beautiful summer days, all the while dodging the urge to jump in the sea and stay sober.
The weekend before that I had travelled to Stockholm and spent the 4-day weekend (it’s a whole new concept I claim authorship to!) with Patricia, Viveka and Jens from UNC was well as my beautiful Stockholm posse Malin, Lisa and Fia. We did some sightseeing, some hilarious partying at Stockholm’s dingiest club and had a wonderful bbq with Jens’ parents and brothers at their beautiful home by the lake (take a left at civilization’s end, keep going for a while, third house on the right). And we went to an amusement park! Like a Six Flags that could fit in your pocket, right smack in the middle of Stockholm. I know, weirdness.
This Saturday I somehow got roped into being the bartender at my friends’ friends’ (ha! Double genitive! Is that…like possible?) wedding. Weird? Possibly. Free booze? Definitely.
